Shared Groups
In addition to sharing a whole library, EndNote X9 offers users the option to share a group of references with up to 100 other EndNote online users.
Group sharing provides entire teams with immediate and real time access to an EndNote group. A group is a selected set of references from an EndNote library. Group sharing is recommended as an alternative to saving a library or group on a shared drive, or emailing a compressed copy around to collaborators.
To begin sharing:
- Initiating group sharing from the desktop can be done from one of two places: by right-clicking a group or from the Group Menu and selecting Share Group
- After selecting one of these options, the user is presented with the Share dialog.
The share dialog allows you to do the following:
- Invite people to have access to your Shared Group
- Re-send (remind) invitations
- Change access level for colleagues invited to share your group
- Remove colleagues from your shared group
Inviting people to your shared group:
- Open your synced library
- Click on the

button
- If you are not logged into EndNote online, you will be prompted to log in
- The Share dialog will open
- Enter the email address (or addresses separated by commas) of the people that you would like to invite in the email box
- For each invitee, use the dropdown box to select the desired access level: Read & Write or Read Only
- Enter an optional message to be sent to the above email address
- Click on the Invite button
A user who does not have X9 will be able to access the shared group by logging onto EndNote online
For an X9 user in the Groups pane in their library, a Groups Shared by group set will appear in the user's synced library. When that is clicked, it opens the group in EndNote online.
